Measuring sustainability progress and driving continuous improvements

Detergents Europe is proud to publish the 2026 Charter for Sustainable Cleaning KPI Report. The report showcases the collective sustainability progress achieved by Charter participants across Europe. The report is based on externally verified data and tracks performance across the entire product lifecycle, from the sourcing of raw materials through manufacturing, use and end-of-life management.

The Charter KPI report shows tangible and measurable progress for key performance indicators (KPIs) from 2005 to 2026. The KPIs cover key sustainability priorities, including climate protection, resource efficiency and circularity, as well as environmental and human safety. The latest results demonstrate continued progress in areas such as carbon intensity, packaging circularity and workplace safety, while highlighting the long-term improvements achieved by the sector over more than two decades.

A special thank you to all Charter participants whose commitment to annual reporting, independent verification and continuous improvement helps drive sustainability progress across the cleaning and hygiene products industry. Together, they are helping to build a more sustainable future and demonstrating the positive contribution of our sector to society. There are over 170 ordinary and association participating companies in the Charter.

The Charter for Sustainable Cleaning is a voluntary sustainability initiative of Detergents Europe. The Charter enables companies embed sustainability procedures across their operations, products and value chains and provides a common approach to sustainability practices, measurement and reporting for the European cleaning and hygiene products industry.
