As Europe pursues its competitiveness agenda, ensuring access to safe, effective and innovative biocidal solutions must be part of the conversation.
From hospitals and food production facilities to drinking water systems, transport networks, manufacturing plants and everyday consumer products, biocides help control harmful organisms such as bacteria, viruses and fungi, enabling infection prevention, food safety, clean drinking water and the protection of critical infrastructure across Europe.
Yet while Europe’s need for effective biocidal solutions is growing, access to these solutions is declining. Lengthy and unpredictable regulatory procedures are slowing innovation and reducing the availability of essential products.
11 associations representing sectors across the European biocides value chain have come together to publish a joint statement calling for a revision of the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) before the end of this parliamentary term.
Our message is simple: Europe does not need lower standards. It needs a regulatory framework that delivers faster decisions, greater predictability and stronger harmonisation while maintaining a high level of protection for human health and the environment.
A fit-for-purpose BPR is essential to support innovation, competitiveness, preparedness and continued access to safe and effective biocidal solutions.
