Today, the European cleaning and maintenance products association (A.I.S.E.) welcomed MEP Majdouline Sbaï (Greens/EFA), the rapporteur for the revision of the Detergents Regulation, to a plant visit near Antwerp, Belgium.
The visit was hosted by Ecover, a well-known producer of sustainable products with a long track record for its environmental credentials dating back to its foundation over 40 years ago.
MEP Sbaï and her team had the opportunity to witness the science and innovation in the manufacturing of detergents, including the continued ambition to improve the sustainability and high performance of cleaning products, as well as to receive insights from our sector on the revision of the Detergents Regulation.
The visit was an important occasion to exchange views and strengthen the dialogue between industry and policymakers on ensuring a legislative framework that will drive innovation, support the competitiveness of the EU industry while safeguarding human health and environment.
Alexis Van Maercke, A.I.S.E. Director General pointed out: “The Commission’s Clean Industrial Deal highlights the need to place innovation at the heart of the EU economy to boost the competitiveness of European industry. The revision of the Detergents Regulation should reflect the same principles. Therefore, as an industry we call on policymakers to carefully consider any new requirements that will impact product formulation.
Our industry has a reputation for proactive innovation when it comes to biodegradable and sustainable products for use at home, in public spaces, or in hospitals without compromising efficiency. To this end, we call on policymakers to pay particular attention to scientific data, including the impact assessment carried out by the European Commission, when discussing provisions that will require the industry to substitute ingredients which are key for optimal cleaning and hygiene performance.”
The Detergents Regulation revision presents the opportunity to set a coherent and stable legislative framework, allowing the sector to further invest in sustainable solutions and products.
