New study confirms enzyme-based cleaning products are safe for consumer use

On 16th September 2024, a joint article by A.I.S.E. and the Association of Manufacturers and Formulators of Enzyme Products (AMFEP ) was published in the International Journal of Pulmonary & Respiratory Science (Juniper Publishers), which reviewed data going back over more than a decade and confirmed that enzyme-based products such as laundry detergents are safe for consumer use.

It is well established that enzyme exposure in industrial settings requires strict safety measures such as encapsulation and use of protective equipment, consumer exposure is very much lower. Previous studies have demonstrated no significant link between enzyme-based products and respiratory allergies for consumers, and this latest study continues to support this.

The conclusion is clear: enzyme-based detergents and cleaning products are not a cause for concern when it comes to consumer health. A.I.S.E. continues to work with its industry partners to ensure consumers have confidence in safe and sustainable products.
