Communications Trainee – Full time position

Detergents Europe, the voice of the cleaning and hygiene products industry in Europe, is offering a full-time six-month communications traineeship in its Secretariat of multicultural and experienced professionals in Brussels. Under the supervision of the Senior Communications Manager, the successful candidate will contribute to delivering an ambitious and multi-faceted communications plan that supports a very dynamic European trade association.

The role offers hands-on experience across website management, social media, multimedia communications, analytics and project coordination.

We are looking for a proactive and organised candidate with strong communications skills and a willingness to learn, who will bring a positive attitude and commitment to high-quality work in return for an opportunity to contribute to creative and impactful projects at the heart of a fast-moving industry.

Main activities

  • Support the delivery of communications activities that strengthen the visibility, reputation and positioning of the association and the industry
  • Coordinate communications projects with a project management mindset, managing timelines, stakeholders and deliverables to ensure successful execution
  • Support the management and continuous improvement of the association’s digital channels, including websites, social media platforms, newsletters, and other communications tools
  • Contribute to the development of impactful and engaging digital communication assets such as videos, social media visuals, animations, infographics, fact sheets, campaign materials, etc.
  • Update and manage website content using content management systems (e.g. WordPress), ensuring content remains accurate, user-friendly and optimised for visibility
  • Ensure consistency with the organisation’s branding, messaging and visual identity, while identifying opportunities to enhance communications through new digital tools and best practices
  • Monitor, analyse and report on the performance of digital communications activities, using data and insights to improve reach, engagement and impact
  • Research and compile data on the socio-economic contribution and impact of the cleaning and hygiene products industry to support corporate communications materials, presentations and industry narratives
  • Contribute creative ideas during planning and help identify opportunities to strengthen engagement and communications activities

Personal profile

  • Degree in Communications, Media, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field
  • Previous experience in communications is an asset
  • Good analytical skills and an ability to assimilate the various aspects of an issue rapidly
  • Fluent English, excellent communication skills
  • Personal confidence, proactive and able to take initiative
  • Strong organisational skills, flexible, able to work independently as well with team colleagues and under time pressure
  • Good project management and excellent attention to detail
  • High level of IT literacy with MS Office, SharePoint and communications tools such as CMS (WordPress, Joomla), LinkedIn, Mailchimp, Google Analytics / GA4, Canva or similar design tools
  • Interest in digital communications, new media trends and emerging communications and AI-powered tools (e.g. Microsoft Copilot)
